We’re back! We’ve been busy building community – the community site of ToolzDo that is. The ToolzDo community, the people, is the heart of ToolzDo. I am glad to finally be back sharing with you on the ToolzDo blogs.
Other ways to stay in touch is to follow ToolzDo on Twitter and I will follow you back and to become a fan of ToolzDo on Facebook.
What’s community without the people? ToolzDo is not about the stuff but about the people and their potential for doing good in their real life community – doing good in the lives of the people they come across. People are the ones giving. People are the ones keeping usable stuff out of landfills. People are the ones helping each other save and earn cash in this tough economy. ToolzDo is powered by people – by you and the many others to come. The ToolzDo community is a social network on purpose – helping neighbors connect.
We take what we say about building stronger community very seriously. So the community site of ToolzDo is a fun tool for doing just that – build stronger communities. Well how do you do that? First thing first and that is to connect. With ToolzDo, neighbors can now say hello without nervousness, get involved without intrusion, share without butting in, and get a helping hand without losing pride.
The goals of the ToolzDo community are to show communities their members, provide additional opportunities for members to connect offline and to open a window to communities around the world to learn about other cultures.
So here are the cool features we’ve added to the ToolzDo community site:

Now you can access all the community features from the new community home page! See the latest people and causes who have joined us without having to search for an item. It’s a great way to discover neighbors with similar interests and new causes. Find out the social issues being addressed in your community and join in to make a positive impact. While you are there, have a peek at what your neighbors are working on; check out free items being offered, and the latest discussions and blog posts. If your town is not yet on ToolzDo, don’t leave or be shy – send everyone an invite to join you to begin saving more and to get the fun started. Let you local charities also know how ToolzDo can help them increase awareness and their supporter list.
New member profile
The member profile has been redesigned! Now you can find everything your neighbors share from their member profile – offered and wanted items, discussions, and public profile information. You can also now report members that violate ToolzDo’s Terms of Use.

Real Connects
Stay connected with the people who you gave stuff to and people you received stuff from with Real Connect. You are automatically connected when a request is completed. Request Real Connections and invite people in your town you’ve met face-to-face. It’s a contact book for neighbors. Share, save money and the planet, discover, solve, build friendships, inspire, serve, and change your community together. We encourage physical (real) connections. Soon to come are prizes for the most connected in real life. So start meeting your neighbors today. Real connections are currently only allowed individual to individual and company to company.
Share your projects or activities – maybe get a helping hand
We can do more than offer and get stuff. Share what project or activity you are working on or planning to work on and see even more what you have in common. If you are doing it, someone else may be doing it too or has done it. This is not to be used to keep up with the Jonas’ but quite the opposite – to share knowledge and build cooperation (community life). Would you appreciate it if a neighbor shared their expertise and skills for something you are working on? It gets even more fun. Ever wondered what is going on the other side of the world? We’ve added an application dedicated to the giving community focused on reducing waste going to landfills by giving away unwanted items to those who want them. Our FastCycle tool makes posting to any existing freecycling email group a cinch and getting rid of unwanted stuff faster. See how Give and Get Free Stuff works here. The more givers using ToolzDo to give away stuff in your town, the more efficient and fun freecycling becomes for all.
