If you’re a girl born in Japan today that would be about 83 years, according to the new report, World Health Statistics 2009, issued last month by the World Health Organization.
The figures in WHO’s annual World Health Statistics report are from 2007, the latest year available.
The report shows that 14 countries had life expectancies of at least 81 years. Here are those countries, along with their life expectancy for babies born in 2007:
- Japan: 83
- Australia, Iceland, Italy, San Marino: 82
- Andorra, France, Israel, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden: 81
At the other end of the life expectancy spectrum, 15 countries had life expectancy below age 50. Here are those countries and their life expectancy for babies born in 2007:
- Sierra Leone: 41
- Afghanistan: 42
- Lesotho, Zimbabwe: 45
- Chad, Zambia: 46
- Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Swaziland, Uganda: 48
- Burkina Faso, Burundi, Mali: Nigeria 49
In the U.S., life expectancy for a baby born in 2007 is 78 years. Chile, Cuba, Denmark, Kuwait,Slovenia, and the United Arab Emirates share that same life expectancy.
Here are takeaways from this data that I call absolute truths – always was, is, and will be; believe it or not the truth still is:
- You are here on this earth for a limited time. The probability of each one of us dying one day is 1 (100% guaranteed).
- As you are in flesh, if you stay here (on earth) too long, you will rot (a good word picture from Pastor Gomez ).
- You do not know when you will check out (die), just like you did not know when you were going to check in (be born).
- Anything you’ve accumulated while here, on earth, will all be left behind when you die. You will go as you came – with nothing. The “stuff” we own then, are not what matter!
What you do with your short time here on earth is your choice – no matter how bad the hand you’ve been dealt in the game of life.
